While I got back to blogging in August, I spent most of my time on back-end/behind the scenes efforts. Hopefully this is the last somehwhat short & boring (lol) traffic and income report and things will start to pick up in September! No matter my effort or focus on my blog, I’ll always publish these posts monthly so that other new bloggers can see real life examples of growth, etc.

My August snapshot metrics:
- 227 users (up from 209)
- 272 sessions (up from 254)
- 368 page views (up from 334)
- 1:45 average time on page
- 2.57% bounce rate
- 12.2% returning users (July was 16.9%)
In June, 89.7% of my traffic came from social sources. In August, 88.1% of my traffic came from social including 161 visits from Pinterest, 38 from Facebook, and 2 from Instagram.
An interesting note, in July I had 5 visits from Organic Search traffic but none this month. Looking back, year to date I’ve had 17 visit from Organic Search. I’ll have to do a little deep dive to figure out what’s contributing to that number and how I can increase it (SEO) moving forward. My August Top Channels snapshot is below:
My top posts from July held strong in August with a new addition. My Favorite Deployment Quotes was still the most popular with 106 page views followed by Fifty Open When Deployment Letter Ideas. Then Quick Five Pinterest Tips To Immediately Improve Your Blog Traffic snuck up the list to #3 this month followed by 30 Things To Do During The First 30 Days of Deployment.
Like I mentioned in July’s recap, I wrote a blog post, Five Quick Pinterest Tips To Immediately Improve Your Blog Traffic, and a few days later there was a big Pinterest update so my Pinterest metrics skyrocketed (45k+ impressions).
I didn’t create any new pins in August so I was expecting my overall stats to decline but was surprised to see that all my specific CCWK metrics had increased.

- 28,225 impressions
- 17.39k total audience
- 1.17k engagements
- 738 engaged audience
My Specific Chit Chat With Katie Content Metrics
- 25,494 impressions
- 15.22k total audience (up from 12.95k)
- 1.03k engagements (up from 936)
- 635 engaged audience (up from 545)
I use Iconosquare to manage my Instagram & Facebook pages, not only for my blog but for my full time marketing role as well. It’s such a great tool for scheduling, analyzing data, competitor research, the list goes on and on. Here’s a snapshot of my August Instagram metrics aka the one post I posted. Oops

Much like Instagram, I didn’t do anything with my Facebook page in the month of August either.

- 65 impressions (down from 100)
- A reach of 14
- 3 engagements
- A reach rate of 116.67%
- A fan engagement rate of 25% (up from 8.33%)
- And a regular engagement rate of 21.43% (up from 7.69%)
August Income Report
Total Income Earned $245.01!!!
For the month of August, I received 35 clicks resulting in 4 ordered items, 1 returned item, and a 11.43% conversion rate. The total revenue of shipped items equaled $34.97 and I earned $1.11 (woo hoo, lucky threes!)
If you’ll remember, I needed to update my SiteGround payment info to cash out on a referral that was sitting in my account. Well, I finally did that and received my first affiliate sale deposit on 8/11 for $50!
I also have a $50 pending affiliate sale which will hopefully hit and be included in September’s report.
I’m love Creative Market and immediately applied to their affiliate program when I launched my blog. Creative Market allows affiliates to earn 15% of new customer orders. I didn’t have any click throughs or sales through Creative Market in August but I did finally update my tax information with them so now when I hit their $20 threshold in sales, I’ll get paid out.
Services & Products
August was my first month of selling one of my blog services! I connected with Nicole online who needed a quick three page blog as a placeholder. I put together a custom quote based off my Basic Does It package (since Nicole is ready to fully launch and didn’t need everything included just yet) and after Paypal fees earned $193.90.
I didn’t have any income from collaborations or brand partnerships in August. I do have some fun things in the works for September and October though!

Canva Pro – $12.95
Canva is the tool I use to make all my blog headers and pins for Pinterest. I’m a huge Canva fan and have been using them for multiple design projects over the past few years. I wasn’t accepted into their affiliate program (I didn’t meet the traffic requirements) but if you haven’t used Canva yet, this referral link will get us both a Canva credit!
Iconosquare – $39
I used Iconosquare at my full time job before launching my blog and wouldn’t be able to do my job on social media without it! It’s by far the most affordable and robust social media scheduling & analytic reporting tool out there. Iconosquare easily shows your growth, lets you analyze what content is performing best, and allows you to schedule automatic posts all from an easy to use dashboard. I can’t wait to deep dive into some Iconosquare tutorials with you all soon!
Adobe Stock – $29.99
I finally cancelled my Adobe Stock membership so August will be the last time I have this charge! YES!
And that’s all she wrote for August, my first month actually producing money in the bank income from my blog! It took five months (and honestly for a large portion of time I was checked out and not actively blogging) so I’m excited to see how things grow in the future!
